It boils down some very good reasons to automate. ERIC: So, this actually kind of ties in with Getting Things Done; it's “Time Management for System Administrators”. For just managing yourself, it's not hard. Over the years, I've tried few time management and productivity systems. I recently paid them $20 for an epub of Time Management for System Administrators, versus $10 for the Kindle version from Amazon, and felt a bit silly. Instructors include Tom Limoncelli, co-author of The Practice of System and Network Administration and Time Management for System Administrators, Mike Halligan, CTO of BitPusher, George Toft, CISSP, MSIS and more! Limoncelli is a great source of both professional ane personal advices. But not dealing with DRM is really nice. This year, I'm using a Mead at a glance planner that fits with a work mgmt system described in Tom Limoncelli's book, TIME MANAGEMENT FOR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS. I know plenty of System and Network admins. So I bought and am now reading Time Management for System Administrators (aka “The Badger”) from O'Reilly. For a sysadmin, you've got Getting Things Done, Time Management for System Administrators. I got it when I was a system administrator and doing kind of developer stuff kind of on the side for the company. I'm a System Administrator, and between supporting end users, working on new projects, and just maintaining all the systems I administrate, it's hard to find the time to get everything done. Also, “Time Management for System Administrators” by Thomas A. Tomontime.com – Tom Limoncelli recorded talking about his other book 'Time Management for System Administrators' (and another book I'd highly recommend reading). Book recommendation - I think on Brent Ozar's site - for a 2006 book entitled "Time management for system administrators", by Tom Limoncelli (see his blog at http://everythingsysadmin.com/, he seems like good people). These are good systems, but I've always had a hell of a time making them work. Time Management for System Administrators understands that an Sys Admin often has competing goals: the concurrent responsibilities of working on large projects and taking care of a user's needs. As a side note, Tom Limoncelli wrote a section in his book, Time Management for System Administrators, on automation.
